The Continuing Education Committee of CARP National is continually reviewing ways to improve the continuing education process for professional members.

Here are a few of the recent highlights:

•  Updated and Expanded Focus/Content Areas

Contributions to CARP, including participation in the Annual General Meetings of CARP National and CARP Atlantic ( 1 hour each ) and volunteering on a National or Atlantic Committee ( up to 10 hours annually retroactive to January 1, 2003 ).

Expansion and enhancement of the independent study options ( 9 A - D ) of the focus/content areas has been completed to offer more opportunities to those who may have difficulty accessing other learning methods.

•  CRCC Pre-Approval of CARP Sponsored and Co-Sponsored Events

Arrangements have been made with the CRCC for 2 designated CARP representatives to be authorized to provide pre-approval of CEUs for CARP sponsored events. This service commenced on January 1, 2004 and is offered free of charge to CARP Atlantic members who forward their submission to Bessy Kirkopoulos, the Continuing Education Co-ordinator at CARP National. Please refer to the CRCC's website at for details on the required documentation and note all post-approval requests must still be submitted directly to the CRCC.

•  Improved Timelines and Process for CEU Approvals

CARP National has been able to expand the number of authorized representatives across Canada and has been able to significantly shorten the turnaround on the review and approval of pre- and post-approval requests submitted by members and groups.

Submissions for pre-and post-approval of CEUs for courses, conferences, workshops and seminars need only include the completed Request for Approval of Continuing Education , a copy of the Agenda which provides an outline of session content and duration, and a completed Attendance Verification Form.

For recording of CEUs acquired through attendance at a pre-approved event, only the completed Attendance Verification Form needs to be submitted to update your continuing education file.

•  New Database and Reports When Credits Are Granted

The CARP National Office has developed a new database which provides enhanced efficiency, accuracy and clarity for tracking of approved CEUs and events.

•  Bilingual Review and Approval Services

CARP National now has a new authorized representative to provide support in French.

For further information on any of these points, please refer to the CARP National website at or contact the Office at 1-888-876-9992 toll free.
